If you own a local business, have a website and/or the website isn’t ranking on Google yet, then this article will teach you step by step how to fix it.
I have a client who just bought a existing day spa and relaunched it as medical spa in southwest Houston. One of the most important steps for any business is to a website as fast as possible.
We did a quick name search using BustaName.com and discovered a great URL… BellaireMedSpa.com. Score! It doesn’t get any better than that even though Google doesn’t put as much value on direct match anymore.
Next we had to create a quick single page site for the business. This way we have something in place to start sending traffic to it. We’re in the process of building out a full website, but that will probably take a couple months.
Now let’s talk about getting the site ranked.
If you’re doing this yourself, be sure to create the local business listing on Google first. Once you create your listing make sure you type in accurate business information like business name, categories, opening closing hours, phone number, address, etc.

Make sure you have listed your business details on your contacts us section of your website including business name, address, opening closing hours, phone number, and a Google maps widget.
Next, optimize on site SEO. For example the home page meta tags for this client should be “medical spa, med spa, med spa houston, medical spa houston, etc”. This tells Google what the site is about. There’s more on site optimization you should do, but for now it’s not as important.
If you use WordPress, there’s a great plug in for on site SEO called SEO for WordPress made by Yoast. It makes on site SEO a whole lot easier.
One thing to keep in mind, a local business in a small suburb with little competition is always little easier to rank that business without too much hard work.
Ranking a large business in different cities and states requires whole lot more research, more work, and on going optimization.

Run https://www.whitespark.ca/local-citation-finder Which will help you find local directories to create for your local business.
If you don’t have the time to create local business listings for your business, I suggest to at least go with the main ones Like Google Local, Yelp, Foursquare, Yellow pages, Bing Places, etc. Personally take care of any listing requiring phone verification or pin verification which usually they are high quality listings and you want to make sure they are 100% optimized with your business details, rich photos and so on..
For other local listings you could use any of the following services which they will create these listings on your behalf:
Make sure you ask for reviews from your customers,once your customers start leaving reviews for your business on your local listings you will notice your business will start getting more referrals.. Because online reviews it’s like word of mouth on steroids.
Local SEO is not complicated. The backlinks you need are local links. So make sure your local listings are local links and keep building up your links each month. Try to get local bloggers blog about your business. Get associations to link to you. Think natural, be creative.
